The past week I’ve been wracking my brain trying to come up with a concise list of my “core values”. Creating the list was easy, keeping it “concise” was not! Instead of feeling calm and assured, my extensive value list left me feeling overwhelmed, discouraged and confused.
After some thought, I realized it is impossible to focus when my attention is divided, and if I wanted a clear guide in my life I needed ONE core value on which to concentrate…I needed a “CORE-EST” value.
So I prayed and pondered and the Lord blessed with me with an answer…
“Do the Lord’s Will“. How simple! How profound! Truly a crystal-clear guide for life!
Doing the Lord’s will is not a new idea or phrase. But as I look at it with a new understanding as my ONE “CORE-EST” value, the complication, the overwhelm, the confusion and the lack of focus is gone and in it’s place is a gentle, reassuring peace that we as Latter-day Saints know the truth and the way. That all we need to do at any moment is pause and humbly ask “What is the Lord’s will?” and we will know what actions to take. How wonderful it is to have the Lord’s help to clear life of the unimportant and fill it with the meaningful. How blessed we are to have the simplicity that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings into our lives.
